Many finished blocks

Leanne's House block 8 is also done (O: I am making this together with my dear friend Jutta, from Berlin. If I hadn't done this together with her, I think I would have stopped a long time ago. Wonderful to do this together with you, Jutta! Only one more block to go and then of course the finish!!!

Block 9 of the Jelly Roll Sampler quilt. A wonderful pattern and once again so fast to make!

Look at the lovely package that came this week. I ordered the Sugar Fat Quarter Bundle at Canton Village Quilt Works. This time it was there within 5 days. The other package that had been lost since January finally arrived too a while back. It got stuck at the customer duties. Unbelievable. But, at least it did not get lost after all.
Go over to Canton Village! She has 20% off today!

Now I have a question for you. With the fabrics below, the Love U line by Deb Strain for Moda, I want to make two baby quilts for our next door twins. I want to use the jelly roll, some charms and yardage. I don't want to wash the jelly roll, before I finish the quilt. What would you do, make the whole quilt without washing any of the fabrics, or pre-wash the yardages?
I thought to first make the quilt and then wash it, but I am not sure.

I will daarvoor de jelly roll gebruiken, enkele charms en lappen.

The fun of eating the chips that Melanie sent to us, has finally started, now that Laura is back home with us for a while. I did the game, Melanie does with flavored chips, to see which one is their favorite. I put the chips of the different countries below in different bowls. I put the name below the bowls, so we couldn't see it. And then taste which one is our favorite. Thijme, Laura and I liked the Brazilian Salsa best and Ger the American Cheeseburger. The American Cheeseburger really tasted and smelled like cheeseburgers! Tomorrow we are off to the next round. At the end we'll put our favorites from each of the 4 bags (with 3 flavors) in bowls and see which one is the winner (O: This is great fun, Melanie! Thank you so much!

I'm looking forward to seeing all your blocks you're doing with Jutta together. They're all so beautiful and I'm sure it will be a stunning quilt.

I never prewash my fabrics. There are a lot of differing opinions on the subject but I like that crinkly look that comes from the minimal shrinkage you get from quilt quality fabric these days.

To me, the salsa chip sounds much better. I'm not sure I'd want to each a chip that has a meat taste.

hello Simone,
you have been a busy bee again, great work.
I very seldom wash my fabrics before I uses them, and certainly not a jelly roll. To date I have NEVER had a problem, will be interesting to see what others suggest...
Enjoy your chips

Your Leanne's House is looking lovely. I think it is an interesting one to make with different techniques.

Can't wait to see your finished jely roll sampler.

Those elves make me smile every time.

I love the school house block. Will it be part of a pieced village?

Lovely fabrics!

Your Leanne's House blocks are looking great...lovely fabrics....

and you have been so busy again!

I would probably just make the quilt and wash it at the end (cos I'm just too lazy to do it at the beginning!)

I LOVE your first picture posted :) Its beautiful. I never wash any of my fabrics before I use them. Is that a bad thing? ;)

Hi Simone - sewing with a friend sure does make it fun and your Leanne's House quilt is looking just lovely. I have a friend in another state who's husband bought it for her as a block of the month.

I must confess I almost never pre-wash my fabric. With modern manufacturing it just doesn't seem necessary. I would check some of my older fabrics (blues and reds) and set them aside if they run. If you were a little worried you could use a dye catcher when you washed it for the first time. I do know it would be a disaster if you tried to wash the pre-cuts before you used them... even gentle hand washing could distort them.

Love your new fabrics. Have fun with them!

Cheers
Shari

Hello darling Simone! :-)

Oh gosh - Walkers crisps - how I miss them! LOL One thing we can not buy in Australia, so I have to ask my family to send them over! :-)
Your blocks are stunning, Simone! And the Deb Strain fabrics are beautiful! Funny you should ask, I am about to make a cot quilt too and was wondering whether to pre-wash the fabrics or not. I think most commercial fabrics are fine, but I have some homespuns and I'm not sure that I trust them to be colourfast! I look forward to finding out what other blogging friends recommend!

Have a great week lieve Simone! How lovely for you to have Laura home, and what a tasty, fun game to play with those crisps!!!

Hugs! Knuffles!

Hallo liebe Simone,

You have lots of pretty projects in the works! That Sugar line is gorgeous and Jackie has fantastic service. I can't say the same about the postal system! I think if a large majority of your fabrics aren't going to be pre-washed then don't pre-wash any.

And I forgot to say GO NETHERLANDS!!! We've been watching some of the televised games. But I haven't seen Netherlands play yet.

You have been very busy. Love all your projects.
To answer your question I would not wash the fabrics before I made the quilt. Wash it after its all done.

Terry zei

Love your blocks! I never prewash. I love how a quilt gets a little crinkly looking when it's done and I wash it. And I always through a color catcher in with a new quilt when I wash it just to be safe! :0)

Cattinka zei

I like your new blog outfit, it looks good!
Your new blocks are great, you relly got a lot finished last week!
And to the fabrics. I think either you wash them all, or you don´t wash any of them. Some washed and some not will not go together well.
The lady at my local quilt store recomends to steam the fabrics if you don´t wash them first, maybe that would be the solution for you, this way you could steam iron all of them before sewing.

Hallo liebe Simone,
wow, deine Nr. 8 gefällt mir sehr, sehr gut.

Fijn he, dat Laura weer thuis is!

Everything is beautiful - lovely Leanne's House block and I love that fabric in your Jelly Roll sampler, is it Aunt Grace? For fabric washing I would either wash everything or nothing at all I think. I do wash fabrics but I wouldn't attempt to wash a jelly roll.

Nanette Merrill zei

Well your fabrics are wonderful. You can't go wrong with it. I just finished my block for the jelly roll quilt, too.
