The cat in the teapot

This weekend I wanted to start a project and finish it. So, I decided to make the teapot designed by Jodi and that I got at her Ric Rac Sews etsy shop. She is closed for a while, getting ready for the Stitches and Crafts show. Go visit her blog. Jodi makes wonderful projects!

Dit weekeinde wilde ik iets nieuws beginnen en ook afmaken. Ik besloot de theepot van Jodi te maken, die ik bij haar etsy shop Ric Rac Sews heb gekocht. Momenteel is ze gesloten, omdat ze zich voor een Stitches adn Crafts show aan het voorbereiden is. Ga eens naar haar blog. Het is echt de moeite waard!

I joined Lyn's Make Do Memories Miniature Quilt Challenge and have been working on it quite a lot lately. It is the first time I worked with (half) hexagons. Until now, everything is done by hand, just like the lady who made those hexagon flowers did, but I will machine quilt it, since my left arm and shoulder won't accept it, that I quilt by hand. Does anyone have any suggestions how to sew on the hexagon flowers? Look on Lyn's blog on the right side and see what other ladies have already done with their hexagons.

Ik doe mee aan Lyn's Make Do Memories Miniature Quilt Challenge en heb er de laatste tijd heel wat tijd aan besteed. Het is de eerste keer dat ik met (halve) hexagons werk. Tot nu toe heb ik alles met de hand gedaan, net als de mevrouw die de bloemen heeft gemaakt. Ik zal het geheel echter met de machine quilten omdat mijn linker schouder en arm het niet meer toelaten met de hand te quilten.

Als je naar Lyn's blog gaat, kun je aan de rechterkant zien wat andere dames tot nu toe met de hexagons hebben gedaan.

I so much enjoyed working with hexagons, that I decided to start some blocks myself. The fabrics I used I got at Jackie's Canton Village Quilt Works shop. They are reproductions of 1930 fabrics. Very very pretty!

Ik vond het zo leuk met de hexagons te werken, dat ik besloten heb ermee verder te gaan. De stofjes heb ik bij Jackie's Canton Village Quilt Works winkel gekocht. Het zijn reproducties uit de jaren 30. Heel heel mooi!

This month's Schnibbles is Tagalong. Since I also want to make a baby quilt for when I go to the States, I decided to use the Tagalong patterns for a baby quilt, so I will be adding a few more blocks and make a wider inner border. Here are some of my preparation for the quilt.

De Schnibbles van deze maand is Tagalong. Ik wil nog een babyquilt maken voordat ik naar Amerika ga, dus heb ik besloten het patroon van Tagalong te gebruiken voor de babyquilt. Twee vliegen in een klap. Ik zal wat extra blokken maken en een bredere rand.

Aangezien wij geen pretpark mensen zijn, maar ik toch de zegels voor 8 euro korting per Efteling kaartje spaar, zou ik er graag iemand een plezier mee doen. Laat even weten of je interesse hebt. en voor hoeveel kaartjes. Iedere spaarkaart geeft korting aan een kaartje. Ik stuur je ze graag voor niets op!

Like many towns and cities in the Netherlands, Heerlen too has the graffiti problem. On the wall below there used to be a lot of ugly graffiti. Earlier last month there was a graffiti workshop. Doesn't it look great! And it is already like this for 2 weeks. I guess the youth respects it!

Zoals zo veel steden, kampt Heerlen ook met het graffiti probleem. De muur beneden was voorheen bekladderd met graffiti. Nu hebben ze een graffiti workshop gegeven en de muur is al 2 weken 'schoon'. Ik denk (hoop) dat ze respect hebben voor elkanders werk!

Roundabout Schnibbles

I finished the Roundabout Schnibbles top just in time for the Schnibbles parade at Sherri's and Sinta's blog. Please have a look there to see all the other Schnibbles made with this pattern.

It was lots of fun once again, to make one of Miss Rosie's quilts. She does such a wonderful job in describing how to make it. If you haven't made one yet, you should really try once!

For this Schnibbles I used the range Love U by Deb Strain for moda. If you look here, you will see that the colors are much better than shown here. The weather was bad )o:

Ik ben net op tijd klaar met mijn Roundabout Schnibbles top om mee te kunnen doen met de Schnibbles parade op Sherri's en Sinta's blog. Neem daar eens een kijkje, om te zien wat anderen met dit patroon gedaan hebben. Het was opnieuw er leuk een patroon van Miss Rosie te maken! Haar beschrijvingen zijn er duidelijk en iedere keer is het resultaat weer verrassend. Je zou het echt eens moeten proberen!

Voor deze Schnibbles heb ik stofjes van Love U van Deb Strain voor moda gebruikt. Wanneer je hier een kijkje neemt, zul je zien dat de kleuren nog mooier zijn. Het weer was slecht, toen ik de foto's nam )o:

Now, I was wondering which of the two fabrics I should used for the binding. I think it should be the right one, because the pink is too bright.

Welk stofje zal ik voor de omranding gebruiken? Ik denk dat ik voor de rechter ga, want de roze is toch wat te fel.

This and that and more

This week I finished my Spring tablerunner. Melanie made the pattern for these lovely tulips. I think it is very pretty and gives me a nice Spring and Easter feeling.

Deze week heb ik mijn voorjaars tablerunner afgemaakt. Melanie heeft het patroon gemaakt. I vind het zelf erg mooi. Het geeft me een echt voorjaarsgevoel!

This is a picture of the back. I must say, I am quite satisfied with my quilting skills. I think it is the first time I did it this way.

Deze foto laat de achterkant zien. Ik ben best tevreden met het quilten. Volgens mij heb ik het voor het eerst zo gedaan.

I finished my 5th block for the Pennsylvania Dutch. I did quite some wrong cutting for this one and forgot to cut pieces. But it turned out nicely in the end. Seven more blocks to go. They are fun to make, because they are quite easy and the directions are very good.

Mijn 5e blok voor Pennsylvania Dutch is nu ook af. Dit blok ging gepaard met heel wat fout snijden en te weinig snijden. Maar, uiteindelijk is het toch goed gelukt.

This is my finished Sunday Best Schnibbles. Now that I finished it, I really like it after all. The borders give a good touch to this quilt.

Hier is mijn Sunday Best Schnibbles. In eerste instantie was ik er niet zo blij mee, maar nu dat hij af is, vind ik hem toch erg mooi geworden. De omranding geeft het een goed geheel.

This is the second block of the Jelly Roll Sampler. I just love it! It gives me such a happy feeling, those colors.

Now, there is a nice story to this challenge. I told my dear friend Jutta, to join this challenge, since it is so much fun to do and the blocks are made fast. One every two weeks is certainly not trouble. This week, Jutta emailed me, telling me she would join, if I would let her teach me paper piecing. First I hesitated, since I am in to so much, but when she said we would make three blocks for an Easter wallhanging, how could I resist.

So now, Jutta already made her two JRS blocks and I ...

Dit is mijn tweede blok voor de Jelly Roll Sampler. Ik vind hem erg mooi. De kleuren geven mij zo een fijn gevoel. Echt voorjaar!

Nu zit er een verhaal achter deze challenge. Ik had mijn lieve vriendin Jutta uit Berlijn al een paar keer gezegd om mee te doen, aangezien de blokken heel leuk zijn om te maken en het gaat ook snel. Een blok in twee weken is erg goed te doen. Deze week mailde Jutta mij terug om te zeggen dat ze meedoet, als zij mij paper piecing mocht leren. Daar moest ik even over nadenken, omdat ik al met zoveel bezig ben. Maar hoe kon ik nu nee zeggen, toen ze vertelde dat we een wallhanging voor Pasen zouden gaan maken?

On Saturday we went to Amsterdam to visit Laura. So this time I will not show you pictures of Heerlen, but of the place where Laura lives. These pictures do not give you the traditional look of Amsterdam. It is a few kilometers from the center.

This is the building in which Laura has her studio. She lives on the inside of the building.

Zaterdag hebben we Laura in Amsterdam bezocht. Dus dit keer zal ik jullie foto's laten zien van de omgeving waar Laura woont. Het zijn niet de traditionele foto's van Amsterdam. Het centrum ligt hier een paar kilometer vandaan.

Winter White Schnibbles, blocks and strings

This week I received 6 more blocks for the two charity quilts. the ones on the left are from Maria (UK), the middle ones from Laurie (USA) and the right ones are from Bev (Australia). This week I will be starting on the one with the red middle part. I have enough blocks now, including the extra ones I made. Thank you so much Maria, Laurie and Bev for helping making these quilts! It feels very special and I hope I can soon show a result!


Deze week heb ik nog zes blokken voor de twee charity quilts gekregen. De linkse blokken zijn van Maria (GB), de middelste twee van Laurie (VS) en de twee rechtse van Bev (Australië).
Deze week zal ik beginnen met het maken van de eerste top. Ook Maria, Laurie en Bev, bedankt voor jullie hulp! Het voelt heel bijzonder, deze quilt te maken maken!

I finished my fourth (already) Schnibbles just on time. This one is the Winter White. I am very satisfied with it and always think the last one is prettiest. So, right now, I think this one is the nicest I have made so far (O: This month I should have worked on the Madeline Schnibble, but once again the post didn't deliver things on time, so the charm packs I had ordered came in much too late. Since I hadn't made the first Schnibbles, I decided to make this one (O:

Ik heb mijn vierde Schnibbles klaar. Dit is Winter White. Ik ben erg tevreden met het resultaat. Eigenlijk zou deze maand Madeline Schnibbles gemaakt worden, maar de charm packs waren niet op tijd binnen, dus heb ik de eerst maar gemaakt, waarvoor ik eerder nog geen kan had.

Vergeet niet morgen op de blogs van Sherri en Sinta te kijken. Daar kun je de Schnibbles Parade bekijken. Er zijn altijd heel mooie quilts te zien!

And this table topper is made from the scraps and leftovers of Winter White. Five blocks are strings, made from the scraps of the blocks that had to be cut from 5" squares to 3.5" squares. This project is for the Loft Creations No Strings Attached Challenge. I will finish the bindings this week, so I can actually use it.

De table topper is gemaakt van de resten van Winter White. Vijf van de blokken zijn strings. Dit is een project voor de Loft Creations No Strings Attached Challenge. De binding zal ik deze week afmaken.

Here is my 5th Leanne's House block that I am making together with Jutta. Lots of stitchery. I put more balance in to this one with the fabrics, which I like more. It is a good one for the middle of a quilt. I can't suddenly change the way I worked with the fabrics.
The block was supposed to be finished in December, but Jutta and I agreed it would be better to have it finished by January. So, dear Jutta, now I am all ready to start with the 6th block! Really looking forward to it!

Hier is dan eindelijk mijn 5e blok voor Leannes House, die ik samen met Jutta maak. Heel veel stitchery. In deze blok heb ik meer evenwicht in de stofjes gezocht. Zo bevalt het me beter. het is de middelste blok, dus kan het ook. Maar ik denk dat ik de rest van de blokken weer op de oude manier maak, anders klopt het niet. Nu op naar de zesde blok, die we eind deze maand af willen hebben.



I have had the Gail Pan's Christmas Elves at home for a while already. Melanie, Suzie and I will be making this stitchery quilt together. Each of the nine blocks should be finished by the 2nd of the month. so, this one is all ready to be finished by then. I will post it next Sunday! I know that having these challenges with dear blogging friends, actually makes me finish quilts!

Pennsylvania Dutch, Web sampler and more

In November I started to the Pennsylvania Dutch BOM, to finish a quilt for a dear friend of mine. It is fun and fast to make! This is the third block.

In november ben ik met de Pennsylvania Dutch BOM begonnen voor een lieve vriendin van mij. Deze blokken zijn leuk en snel te maken. Dit is het derde blok.



And here are the first two blocks. They used the Wiscasset line for this quilt. Very pretty and very calm.

En hier zijn de eerste twee blokken. Voor deze BOM worden stofjes van Wiscasset gebruikt. Heel mooi en heel rustig.

Here are the last two blocks to the Web Sampler Quilt. I had them finished by Christmas, so that I could give them to my DH as a Christmas present. Now I still have to start the top ...

Hier zijn de laatste twee blokken voor de Web Sampler Quilt. Ik had ze al voor de kerst klaar, zodat ik ze mijn DH met kerst kon geven. Nu nog aan de gehele top beginnen ...

Two more presents. The journal cover is from Sarah. Very cute. Thank you Sarah, for the lovely presents.
And to the right a little lavendel bag that my oldest sister made for me for Christmas. On the back she cross stitched a beautiful S. I was very happy and suprised when I received this. It is lying next to my bed, to give me the relaxing scent.

Hier nog twee cadeaus die ik met kerst gekregen heb. De journal cover heb ik van Sarah gekregen. Heel schattig. Bedankt lieve Sarah, voor dit mooie cadeau!
Het lavendel zakje heeft mijn oudste zus voor mij gemaakt. Ik wqas blij verrast! Op de achterkant is er een S geborduurd. Het zakje ligt naast mijn bed en geeft een zachte en ontspannende geur.

And again there is a Schnibbles pattern to work on. Since the post took way to long again, I was not able to start the Schnibbles for this month, Madeline. So, I decided to make the first Schnibbles, Winter White, which I hadn't made yet, since I joined the Schnibbles' fun a month later. Quite a lot went wrong with this pattern, such as plain white being added to the kit as background (ugly), so I had to get new background fabric, because the shop that delivered it, never answered my complaint. And ... I dropped a whole cup of fresh tea on the background squares while drawing lines on them. I think some of it shrunk. But ... it still does look alright.

Ik ben opnieuw met een Schnibbles bezig. Omdat de post de charm pack voor de quilt van deze maand pas deze week geleverd heeft, ben ik aan de eerste quilt van Schnibbles begonnen, Winter White. Met deze quilt is er al heel wat mis gegaan. Ik had het pakketje met stofjes besteld. Daarbij hadden ze voor de achtergrond wit bijgevoegd. Echt lelijk. Uiteindelijk heb ik zelf stof moeten kopen, omdat men mijn klacht niet beantwoordde. Toen ik eenmaal bezig was, de lijnen op de kleine blokken te tekenen, morste ik er een vers gezette kop thee overheen. Ik denk dat sommige blokken gekrompen zijn, maar ik heb het toch maar gebruikt.

Now, if you think this is not comfortable, then ask Bibi. I don't know how she manages to lie like this, but she seems to love it, because she does it over and over again. I think I would get a terrible back ache. Not Bibi though ... She also loves to lie against the heater on the back. So nice and warm (O:

Als je denkt dat je zo niet lekker ligt, vraag dan Bibi maar. Ik weet niet hoe ze het iedere keer klaarspeelt zo te gaan liggen, maar ze schijnt het een heel fijne houding te vinden. Ik denk dat ik enorme rugpijn zou krijgen. Bibi niet. Ze vindt het ook heerlijk om tegen de verwarming aan te liggen, hoe warm die ook is (O: Huisdieren hebben altijd zulke bijzondere gewoontes. Heerlijk!

My last project for 2009 - Schnibbles Sweet Liberty Tuffets

My last project for 2009 are four of the seven Schnibbles Sweet Liberty Tuffets, by Miss Rosie's Quilts. Just in time to join the Schnibbles Parade, that you can see on Sherri's and Sinta's blog on January 1. Please have a look there, because it is so much fun to see how suprisingly a pattern can turn out when made by so many different people. It is very inspiring.The smallest strips in these tuffets are 1/4" finished and the smalles"t square 3/8". I have never made something so tiny and never knew I would enjoy it so much!

Mijn laatste project voor 2009 zijn vier van de zeven tuffets (soort pincushion) van Miss Rosie's Quilts' patroon Schnibbles Sweet Liberty Tuffets. Ik ben nog net op tijd voor de Schnibbles Parade, die te zien is op Sherri's en Sinta's blog. Het is echt de moeite waard om eens een kijkje te nemen vanaf 1 januari. Dan kun je zien hoe verschillend een patroon er uit kan zien, wanneer het door meerdere mensen gemaakt is.
De smalste reep is 1/4" finished en het kleinste vierkantje 3/8". Ik heb nog niet eerder zoiets kleins gemaakt en ik had ook niet gedacht dat ik het zo leuk zou vinden!

The fabrics I used are from a Christmas present I received from Monika, a charm pack by Sandy Gervais for moda - Flirtations. It is so much fun making these tuffets with a charm pack! You get so much variation.
Monika did not only send me the charm pack, but also a very sweet bag and some yummy chocolate, that I will blog another time (not the chocolate ;o). Thank you so much, Monika, for sending these lovely presents for Christmas to me! It was a very big suprise!

De stofjes die ik gebruikt heb, zijn van een kerstcadeau dat ik van Monika heb gekregen, een charm pack van Sandy Gervais for moda - Flirtations. Het is heel erg leuk zo'n project met zo veel verschillende stofjes te kunnen maken. Je hebt dan heel veel mogelijkheden.
Monika heeft mij ook nog een heel leuk tasje cadeau gedaan en echte Duitse Lindt chocolade. Dat laat ik een volgende keer zien (behalve de chocolade ;o) Bedankt lieve Monika, voor deze mooie cadeaus! Het was een grote verrassing voor mij en je hebt me er een enorm plezier mee gedaan!



In the previous Schnibbles Parade I was very lucky to be one of the winners of Carrie's price, the designer of the Schnibbles. The prices for the parade and chosen randomly!
If you look at the picture on the bottom right side, you can see the pattern for the Sweet Liberty Tuffets. You should really make one of Carrie's patterns. They are so much fun to make, very well described and there is always something new to learn!

In de vorige Schnibbles Parade was ik de gelukkige winnaar van een van Carrie's prijzen. Zij is de ontwerpster van de Schnibbles patronen. De prijzen worden willekeurig gekozen!
Wanneer je rechts onder op de foto kijkt, zie je het patroon van de Sweet Liberty Tuffets. Je zou echt eens moeten proberen een van Carrie's patronen te maken. Ze zijn erg leuk om te doen, er is een zeer goede uitleg en je leert altijd iets nieuws!
Hartelijk bedankt, Carrie, voor de geweldige materialen en patronen! Het is de allereerste Layer Cake voor mij. Zo bijzonder!!!

They have started this morning at 10 am (that is when they are allowed to start) have been inside now and then to get warm, eat and drink something and then went off again. It is something they look forward to each year. And it is so fun when they call us to ask to have a look at their fireworks (O:

Dit is what mijn zoon en zijn neef uit England vandaag heeft bezig gehouden vanaf 10 uur vanochtend. VUURWERK!!! Af en toe komen ze eens naar binnen om zich op te warmen en iets te eten en drinken. Zo nu en dan worden we erbij geroepen om naar het siervuurwerk te kijken (O:

Schnibbles - Picnic, Sharp Points, Giveaways and Charity Quilts

I finally finished my Schnibbles Picnic by Miss Rosie's Quilt. A wonderful quilt, which turned out very pretty! This picture was taken with artificial light and does not do the colors justice.

For this quilt I used the range "Have a Sheri Berry Holiday", by Sheri Berry Designs. Wonderful and happy fabrics to work with! If you click on the picture, you will see that the inner borders have the text of two Christmas songs: Have yourself a merry little Christmas and Jingle Bells. I really enjoyed doing that. And for the corners I used bells, for which I had to cut the fabric very uneconomically, because most bells were way too large.
The outer border is so pretty, with about 20 different fabrics. The charm packs 'only' had 20 different fabrics double.

This quilt really needed a lot of time and attention, but I think in the end it turned out very pretty (O:

Yesterday I took classes in "De scherpe puntjes" - the sharp points, given by Jacqueline de Jonge. She is the designer of Becolourful, which some of you might know. Jacqueline also teaches in the USA several times a year. She is a wonderful person, very skilled and calm. She has a very pleasant way of teaching.

This was my result. I must say, it was quite difficult, because we were not only taught to make sharp points in a circle, but also to sew a circle within in circle. Jacqueline also showed us how to
use fabric economically. That was the part where I made most of my mistakes. So at the end I decided to do it 'wastefully' which is not really like me, but if you have to undo your work several times like me, you decide for it.

Now, I have finally found the perfect gloves. At the quilting bee I asked some ladies where you can get gloves for 'easy quilting'. At a regular house and garden shop. How difficult can it be *LOL* I have made my machine quilting quite difficult without them, but then it is even more fun to have them now!

And last, but definitely not least, I want to ask your attention for the following. In the Netherlands quilters make charity quilts for children with a severe or chronical illness. Stichting Jopie's Dromenquilts collects these quilts and wants every child who needs one to receive one.

In January 2010 Marie-Jozé at Handmade by Mai will be organizing a day at Naaimachine Totaal in Kerkrade to make charity quilts. I made one in May as you can see here. I was thinking that it would be very special to receive several blocks from abroad, so I can finish a quilt from it. Of course blocks from the Netherlands are more than welcome too!!!
