And this is the second quilt I finished. The quilt for my sister Adriënne. It is the Fat Quarter Mystery BOM 2011 (flowers). The colors are so nice and soft. They couldn't even be caught with the sun. There was a tulip block to this quilt, but it was so simple compared with the others, that I decided not to make it. Don't understand how they could have added that. But, that's the fun about quilting: there is always a solution to be found (o:

En dit is de tweede quilt die ik af heb gemaakt. De quilt voor mijn zus Adriënne. Het is de Fat Quarter Mystery BOM 2011 (bloemen). De kleuren zijn zo mooi en zacht. Zelfs de zon kon het niet reflecteren. Er was ook een blok met een tulp, maar die was zo eenvoudig, dat ik besloten heb die niet te maken. An UFO update already (o:

Yesteday I finally finished Ger's sampler quilt. It is the very first quilt I made him. He has already slept under it for several weeks, since it didn't have any pins sticking out. But now it is really all finished.
I must say, it is one of the favorites I made. Love the color combinations (even though these are not really my colors) and it feels nice and soft. Laura said: this is what I call a real quilt. When I asked her what she meant, she said it looks traditional and old. I agree with her.

Gisteren heb ik eindelijk de quilt van Ger afgemaakt. Het is de eerste quilt die ik voor hem gemaakt heb en hij is er erg blij mee. Hij sliep er al enkele weken onder, omdat er geen spelden en zo meer inzaten. Maar nu is die dan echt af.
Ik moet zeggen, het is een van mijn meest favoriete quilts, ook al zijn het niet mijn kleuren. Laura zei: dit is nu een echte quilt. Toen ik haar vroeg waarom, zei ze dat het er mooi traditioneel uitziet en oud. Ik ben het helemaal met haar eens.

 Hand quilted, which I really enjoyed doing. Without a ring and big stitches, which was a real challenge for me. I'll definitely do it again. Thank you, Gerrie (no blog) for showing me.

Met de hand gequilt en dat beviel me goed. Zonder ring en met grote steken, wat echt een uitdaging was. Dit doe ik zeker nog eens. Dank je, Gerrie (geen blog) me te laten zien hoe dit te doen.

 And I finished the binding yesterday too. When the weather gets better, I will make a picture of the whole quilt outside. But it is too wet too hang it against the wall outside.

En de bies heb ik er gisteren ook opgezet. Wanneer het weer beter wordt, zal ik buiten een foto van de gehele quilt maken. De schutting is veel te nat ...

And today I put the binding to Adriënne's and Thijme's quilt. I finished the quilting to Thijme's quilt yesterday. I am very very happy with it. Will show you once the whole quilt is done. It was to be one of my Olympic thimble challenges, but I didn't have the time to finish it. But, here it is. Yeah!

En vandaag heb ik de bies op de quilt van Adriënne en Thijme genaaid. De quilt van Thijme heb ik nu ook helemaal doorgequilt. Een hele uitdaging, maar ik ben er erg tevreden mee! Eigenlijk had het een Olympic thimble moeten opleveren, maar ik had niet genoeg tijd, de quilt af te maken. Hier is die dan toch - jippie!

To my dear readers: I am sorry I have not or hardly answered any of your comments. Ger and Thijme have been home over the past 3 weeks and somehow I can't find my rhythm then. Next week Laura will be home for a few days and the week after that, Thijme again. So I won't get into my rhythm for quite a while yet. I do enjoy reading all your comments very much and they always motivate me! Thank you so much!

Aan mijn lieve lezers: sorry, dat ik de afgelopen tijd niet of nauwelijks jullie commentaar heb beantwoord. Ger en Thijme zijn de afgelopen 3 weken thuis geweest en dan kom ik niet in mijn ritme. Volgende week heeft Laura een paar dagen vrij en de week daarop Thijme weer. Dus, voorlopig kom ik niet in mijn ritme. Ik ben wel altijd erg blij met jullie commentaar en het motiveert me iedere keer opnieuw. Bedankt!

Just words

I have decided to join Carrie's Nothing but UFO'S in 2013' challenge. That does not mean that I won't be starting anything new this year. It means that I will be spending lots of time on UFO's, hoping to get some finished. Yesterday, I started counting and stopped at 19, mainly unfinished quilt (tops).
I thought I had one or two Schnibbles to finish. Seams I have 6 ... Ugh )o:
But with this challenge, I am sure I will finish some, if not all.

In January I will try to:
1. Finish Adrienne's FQS BOM 2011 quilt - binding
2. Finish Thijme's Stained Glass quilt - quilting and binding
3. Work on (hopefully finish) the stocking Advent's Calendar I started in November

Ik heb besloten, mee te doen aan Carrie's 'Nothing but UFO'S in 2013' challenge. Dat betekent natuurlijk niet dat ik niet met iets nieuws zal beginnen dit jaar. Maar, het is wel de bedoeling dat ik heel veel tijd ga besteden aan vooral quilts die ik ooit begonnen ben, in de hoop heel wat af te kunnen maken. Gisteren ben ik met tellen begonnen, maar ben bij 19 opgehouden. Het zijn vooral quilt(tops).
Ik dacht dat ik slechts 2 Schnibbles had om af te maken. Blijken het er 6 te zijn ... jeetje ...
Maar, met deze uitdaging hoop ik er toch heel wat af te krijgen in 2013.

In januari ga ik proberen:

1. Adrienne's FQS BOM 2011 quilt af te maken - binding
2. Thijme's Stained Glass quilt af te maken - quilten en binding
3. Aan de  Stocking Advent's Calendar werken en hopelijk afmaken.

Thimble 3, 4 and 5 for the Craft Olympics

In August Melanie intorduced a challenge: The Craft Olympic Athlete. I had all kinds of plans for it and think that I only kept to one. But, I did manage to start 3 new techniques and picked up one that I hadn't done for ages.

Below you see some of the bracelets I made using a very thick knitting and crochet needle. (thimble 3)

In augustus is Melanie een uitdaging met ons aangegaan: The Craft Olympic Athlete. Ik had veel plannen, maar ik geloof dat ik daarvan maar eentje heb uitgevoerd. Ik heb echter 3 nieuwe technieken uitgeprobeerd en eentje die ik al in geen jaren had uitgevoerd.

Hieronder zie je een paar armbandjes die ik gemaakt heb met een dikke brei- en haaknaald. (thimble3)

For the amber yellow braceletI used vintage buttons that I found in this old tin box.

Voor de goudkleurige armband heb ik oude knopen gebruikt die ik in dit blik heb gevonden.

This necklace is made from an old t-shirt in one of my favorite colors. (thimble 4)

Oh, there it is (o: This cute stitchery hasn't found a place in our home yet. I think I will save it for next year. You can find the free pattern here. It was lots of fun to make! And look at the little sewing machine. Perfect in a Christmas tree.

Daar is die weer (o: Deze schattige kerstboom heeft nog geen plek in ons huis gevonden. Ik zal het voor volgend jaar opbergen. Het gratis patroon kun je hier vinden. Kijk eens naar die kleine naaimachine. Die wil toch iedere quiltster in haar kerstboom!

Derde advent

 Years ago, our parents used to give us an angel in which you can put in a candle at Christmas breakfast. These were also included, each year one. Now I always use them to celebrate Advent. Next time I'll try to take a better picture.

Jaren geleden gaven onze ouders ons een engeltje waarin een kaarsje kon tijdens het Kerstontbijt. Ook deze kregen over vier jaar. Nu gebruik ik ze altijd om Advent te vieren. De volgende keer zal ik proberen een betere foto te nemen.

 I have finished 15 of the little Advent cushions until now. Three of them still have to be filled. They are so much fun to make!

Vijftien van 24 kussentjes zijn nu af. Drie moeten er nog opgevuld worden. Het is zo leuk hier aan te werken. 

This one reminded me of Bibi and the birds that come to visit us in our garden.

Christmas is coming

It has been more than a month since I had my last blog post. How time flies. I have been quite busy with smaller projects and I have earned my second Craft Olympic Athlete thimble with Melanie's challenge. 

Meer dan een maand geleden heb ik voor het laatst een bericht geschreven. Hoe de tijd toch vliegt. Ik ben vooral met kleinere projecten bezig geweest en heb mijn tweede Craft Olympic Athlete thimble voor Melanie's challenge verdiend.

Hierboven zie je de Advent kalender waarmee ik 1 december begonnen ben. Voor iedere dag een kruissteekwerkje. Het patroon kun je hier vinden. En ga ook eens naar Elena's blog. Bij ieder ornamentje schrijft een een klein verhaaltje. Heel leuk!

Voor een lieve vriendin heb ik deze Advent kalender gemaakt. Heel leuk te doen. Het hart, oorspronkelijk voor kaarten, heb ik bij Action kunnen vinden. Het patroon voor de zakjes kun je hier vinden.

With these flowers I earned my second thimble. I made the flowers with my new Janome punch machien. These are so much fun to make! Almost addictive.

Met deze bloemen heb ik mijn tweede thimble verdiend. De bloemen heb ik gemaakt met mijn nieuwe Janome punchmachine. Dit is zo leuk te doen. Bijna verslavend.  

A friend of ours turned 60 in November. Since I couldn't find a nice card, I decided to make these two owls.  I think this does look better (o:

Een vriend van ons is in november 60 geworden. Omdat ik echt geen leuke kaart kon vinden, heb ik deze twee uiltjes gemaakt. Dit is toch veel leuker!

 A friend of mine wanted some Christmas pouches for a pretty branch she has in front of her window. I really had fun making these, of course again with essex. The fabric is so my favorite and inspires me in many ways!

Een vriendin wilde graag een paar tasjes voor haar tak voor het raam. Deze waren erg leuk om te maken en natuurlijk weer met essex. Wat is dat toch heerlijke stof om mee te werken. En zo inspirerend.

Another little pouch. Some of you will know for who I made this, having different elements she enjoys. I now have three more frames left. Still thinking what kind of pouch I will make with them.

En hier nog een tasje. Ik heb nu nog drie beugeltjes. Eens kijken welke tasje ik daar mee ga maken.

I have started an Advent's calendar this week, the Advent Activity Calendar by Empty Bobbins. It is so cute! Lots of work though, but I am getting there. I am making the stockings with scraps from the Designer Mystery BOM 2010.

Deze week ben ik begonnen aan de Advent Activity Calendar van Empty Bobbins. Zo lief! Het is wel veel werk, maar het schiet al op. De kerstsokjes maak ik met restjes van de Designer Mystery BOM 2010.

Instead of clipping corners and curves as shown on the picture, I used the zigzag sciccor. So much easier and faster and it works perfectly.

In plaats dat ik alle hoekjes en rondingen knip, gebruik ik de zigzag schaar. Zo veel sneller en gemakkelijker en het werkt uitstekend. 

Well, I couldn't help myself to start cross stitching. Somehow I am not enjoying stitching at the moment, so I had to find something to keep me busy in the evenings. I was inspired by this post, linking to a site and you know what happens from there ... There is so much beauty to find - for free! This pattern is by Manuela: the Christmas Mystery SAL. Every 2 weeks we receive a part of the pattern, the 4th and last part on December 5th. Part 1 is done (o:
