Full House Pip

Another Pip finished. I finished the top last year in September for Le Petite. It is my version of the Schnibbles Full House. Carrie, who designs the Schnibbles used this design for a pillow she made. And I have seen more people using this layout as their Full House version of this month's Another Year of Schnibbles.

Weer een Pip af! Vorig jaar september heb ik de top van deze quilt gemaakt voor Le Petite. Het is mijn versie van de Full House Schnibbles. Carrie heeft dit ontwerp gebruikt voor een kussenhoes. En, ik heb al gezien dat enkele mensen hun Full House Schnibble ook op een dergelijke manier gemaakt hebben voor de maand januari van Another Year of Schnibbles.

It's the first time I worked with a disappearing marker. It actually works very well. I was always a bit afraid, that the marker wouldn't go away, but that was false alarm. Now I'm starting to wonder if I should start learning Free Motion Quilting, because I just love straight lines!

Het is voor het eerst, dat ik met een verdwijnstift heb gewerkt. Ik vertrouwde het eigenlijk nooit. Maar, de lijnen verdwijnen daadwerkelijk als je ze met water nat maakt. Nu vraag ik me af of ik mezelf Free Motion Quilting zal aanleren. Ik vind rechte lijnen toch eigenlijk heel erg mooi!

With the scraps from my Designer Mystery BOM 2010, I decided to join the Half Square Triangle BOM. I am also using an extra charm pack that I still had. Just love those fabric colors!

Met de resten van de Designer Mystery BOM 2010 maak ik de Half Square Triangle BOM. Ik heb ook nog een extra charm pack. De kleuren blijven mooi!

And here are the first three blocks of the Designer Mystery BOM 2011. I have 5 more to go, to catch up, so next month I'll make three more. Then by the end of March I will be all up to date. I've already seen that I don't like one of the blocks. But I'll have to decide with my sister Adriënne, for whom I am making this quilt, if she agrees with me. I'm sure there are enough other 12.5" blocks to be found.

En hier zijn de eerste drie blokken van de Designer Mystery BOM 2011. Ik moet er nog 5 maken, zodat ik weer bij ben. Dus volgende maand opnieuw drie en eind maart ben ik dan helemaal bij. een van de blokken vind ik niet mooi. Maar, ik zal eerst met mijn zus Adriënne overleggen, voor wie ik deze quilt maak, of zij het met mij eens is.

Tomorrow Laura will be back after 6 months, so I made this banner for her. The letters are from the fabric I used for the Full House quilt.
Right now Laura is flying for 16 hours to Frankfurt and from there she will be traveling to Aachen, where we will pick her up tomorrow morning at around 9.30 am. So happy to have her back, but I know she will miss Mexico and Costa Rica!

Morgen komt Laura weer na 6 maanden naar huis, dus heb ik deze banner gemaakt. De letters zijn van de stof van Full House.
Op dit moment zit Laura 16 uur in het vliegtuig naar Frankfurt. Van daaruit neemt ze de trein naar Aken, waar we haar rond 9.30 uur zullen afhalen. Ik ben zo blij dat ze terug is, maar ik weet dat ze Mexico en Costa Rica zal missen!

Designer's Mystery BOM 2010 - finished!

Yeah, I did it. Another Pip done (o: All it needs now is a label, but I am sure I can manage that soon. I hope. I'm not good at labeling ...
The colors are much prettier and even though I was able to take the pictures in the sun today, the colors don't come out well.
I 'copied' Sherri's layout for this quilt. The white sashing makes the blocks come our perfectly. Now I'll have to wait another 10 months or so, before I can use it.

De kleuren zijn in het echt veel mooier. Ik heb de foto vandaag zowaar in de zon kunnen nemen, maar toch komen de kleuren niet tot hun recht. Jammer.
De layout van deze quilt heb ik van Sherri overgenomen. Door de witte sashing komen de blokken veel beter uit.
Nu nog 10 maanden wachten en dan kan ik de quilt gebruiken. Yeah!

I found this picture in my New York book, which I hadn't looked into for a long time. How time flies. We had such a good time there with my parents. Some day we want to take our kids for a visit to New York!

Deze foto vond ik in mijn New York boek. Ik had er al lang niet meer in gekeken. Wat gaat de tijd toch snel. New York is een geweldige stad. Het was er zo fijn met mijn ouders. Ooit willen we onze kinderen mee naar New York nemen. Een stad die je gezien, gevoeld, geroken en geproefd moet hebben!

A very fun quilt to make and what I liked most about it is the dark background used in the border blocks and using the same block design for the middle piece as for the border, but than in two different sizes. I quilted with golden thread, which gives a nice effect, but cost me 4 machine needles ...

Designer's Mystery BOM 2011

This week I started working on the Designer Mystery BOM 2011. This time I will be making it for my sister Adriënne. This is the first block and on the top left you can see parts of the second block. Once again lots of fun and the design is often so clever!

Deze week ben ik begonnen met de Designer Mystery BOM 2011. Dit keer zal ik het voor mijn zus Adriënne maken. Boven zie je het eerste blok en links zie je delen van het tweede blok. Opnieuw is dit heel leuk te maken, net als de BOM van 2010.

I am planning not to throw away the tiniest pieces of scraps this time and see what I can come up with. . These are scraps from the first block, the four corner blocks. I still need to add some hearts.

Ik ben van plan om dit keer geen restjes van de blokken weg te gooien. Zelfs niet de kleinste. Eens kijken wat ik ervan zal maken. Het mini quiltje hierboven is van de restjes van de vier hoekblokken van het eerste blok gemaakt. Er moeten nog een paar hartjes aan.

The mini pinwheel block is about 1 3/4". I am starting to re-discover that I love working on tiny projects, with tiny pieces!

I have also started my Designer's Mystery BOM 2011. First block. I am going to call it a Pip, since I started receiving the blocks in June 2011. It's once again so much fun to make! And, I decided to save the HST scraps. The fabric is too pretty, to just throw away.

Ik ben ook met de Designer's Mystery BOM 2011 begonnen. Het eerst blok. Ook dit wordt een Pip, omdat ik de blokken al vanaf juni 2011 binnen krijg. Dit blok is weer zo leuk to maken! En, ik bewaar de HST restjes. De stof is te mooi om weg te gooien, ook al zijn het maar kleine stukje.

This is the start of a bag my 11 year old niece is making. It is one of Stephanie's patterns of Loft Creations, Oak Park. She took the fabrics from a jelly roll and realized that making a nice balance is not so easy. She did have lots of fun doing it though and it was the first time she worked on a sewing machine. Unfortunately, my niece lives a few hours away from us, so we'll have to plan our next meeting soon.

Dit is het begin van een tas van mijn 11-jarig nichtje. Het is van een patroon van Stephanie van Loft Creations, Oak Park. De stofjes zijn van een jelly roll. M'n nichtje ontdekte al snel, dat het helemaal niet zo makelijk is, de stofjes zo bij elkaar te leggen. Ze vond het wel heel leuk te doen. Voor het eerst heeft ze achter een naaimachine gezeten en ze vond het geweldig. Ik weet niet of ze nog zo snel met de hand zal naaien. Helaas woont m'n nichtje in Oegstgeest, dus moeten we een volgende afspraak plannen.

Another Pip

This is another Pip I am working on, the Web Sampler Quilt 2009. I finished the blocks in 2009, the top in 2010 and I was going to finish it for Ger's birthday in 2011. It is now 2012. With some luck, I will be able to finish it for his 50th birthday (o: It takes so much time, because I am hand quilting it. I love doing that, but can only do it about 1/2 an hour a day. No worries. There are enough days until April 2012!

Weer een Pip, de Web Sampler 2009. De blokken heb ik in 2009 afgemaakt, de top in 2010 en ik wilde de quilt voor de verjaardag van Ger af hebben in 2011. Niet dus. Nu is het 2012. Met een beetje geluk, zal ik de quilt voor Gers 50e verjaardag afhebben in april. Het duurt lang, omdat ik de quilt met de hand quilt en ik maar zo'n half uurtje per dag kan quilten. Maar, tot april 2012 zijn er nog heel wat dagen, dus het zou moeten lukken (o:

Finished Pip nr. 1

I did it! I finished my first Pip. It's a Schnibbles - Plan C that I made in August 2010. I have had it quilted for a while (a year) and it only needed a border. Ta-da. Done!

Ja, het is me gelukt! Mijn eerst Pip is af. Het is een Schnibbles - Plan C, die ik in augustus 2010 heb gemaakt. De quilt is al bijna een jaar door gequilt. Alleen de border moest er nog aan. Ta-da. Helemaal klaar!

I have also been working on a small Christmas quilt. You can see some of the blocks, but I won't be showing you the finish.

En vandaag werd ik afgeleid. Ik heb een dagboek gemaakt voor mijn Pips. Het hoesje is een beetje te klein voor het schrift, maar de foto laat het niet zien ;o)
Ik heb ook aan blokjes voor een kerstquilt gewerkt. Het hele quiltje laat ik niet zien. Wel heel leuk om te doen!

My first Pips and a scraptacular happening

This is my first Pip. I have already quilted 8 blocks. Only 4 more to go. My Janome is perfect for this size of quilt. I could never have done it with my old Pfaff.

Dit is mijn eerst Pip. Ik heb al 8 blokken gequilt en hoef er nog maar 4 te doen. Mijn Janame is perfect voor dit werkje! Ik had het nooit met mijn Pfaff gekund.

My second Pip. The above picture is how it looked this morning, after 2 days of work and the bottom picture shows the top finished with sashing. Now I have three borders to go and then the top will be done (o: Not my colors, but very pretty. I am making it for a dear friend!

Mijn tweede Pip. De bovenste foto laat zien hoever ik vanochtend was, na 2 dagen eraan gewerkt te hebben en hieronder zie je hoe de top eruit ziet zonder de 3 borders die ik er nog aan moet zetten. Nog eventjes en de top is klaar! Niet mijn kleuren maar wel heel mooi! Ik maak de quilt voor een lieve vriendin.

Today Bibi decided to join me upstairs in my sewing room. She has never done that before. It was nice having her company and hearing her groan every now and then when I was making too much noice. The older she gets, the more she does it.

Vandaag is Bibi voor het eerst boven gebleven, terwijl ik aan het naaien was. Heel gezellig en ook heel grappig, haar regelmatig te horen kreunen als ik te veel lawaai maakte. Hoe ouder ze wordt, hoe meer ze het doet.

Like every year, I think about good plans for the year to come. One thing is sure, I want to finish Pips (Projects in Progress), a name introduced by Stephanie at Loft Creations. Please read this post and join the fun!

SSCS 2011 with Santa Liz

On Christmas Day

Liz really did a very good job to get to know me on my blog. She already made the sweetest ornament in my favorite color and look what I opened on Christmas Day. This lovely table runner. The fabrics are so pretty and the stitcheries are so sweet. I'll wait until Spring starts to shine, before I put this on our table.

Liz heeft echt haar best gedaan, mijn smaak te ontdekken. De ornament was al helemaal in mijn kleuren, maar kijk eens naar de tablerunner. Zulke mooie stofjes en de stitchery past er zo leuk bij! Ik wacht tot het lente wordt, voordat ik de tablerunner ga gebruiken. Dus lente, kom maar op ...

But that was not all. Liz also discovered that I really enjoy making bags and she got a special Handmade for me: Bags for all occasions. I already found 2 bags I really want to make in 2012.
And look at the cutest kangeroo hanger for Christmas. We can definitely not find those in the Netherlands!
There was something else ...

Maar, dat was niet alles. Liz heeft ook ontdekt, dat ik heel graag tassen maak en kijk eens naar het speciale tijdschrift dat ze voor me heeft gevonden van Handmade. Ik heb al 2 tassen gezien, die ik wil gaan maken.
Zie je ook de kangoeroe voor kerst. Geweldig toch, met muts, sjaar en kerstboom.
Er was nog iets ...

As you can see, I have not sat still, since we came back from our vacation. But, I am still not quite back yet with me thoughts.
Bibi inspected my layering. She didn't quite agree, as I was taking her space to walk. I eventually finished the layering, but frequently asked myself : why I am doing this? Oh yes, that's right. I want to finish quilt tops that have been patiently waiting ... My knees still don't agree, but they have some time off now till the next quilt top is done ...

I am thinking about how I want to fill in 2012 with blogging and quilting. Difficult. I do know, that I want to finish quilts. Lots of quilts. And, start as few big quilts (read: non) as possible.

Zoals je ziet, heb ik niet stil gezeten, sinds we van vakantie terug zijn. Maar mijn gedachten zijn er nog steeds niet helemaal bij.
Bibi inspecteert mijn werk. Ze is het er niet helemaal mee eens, aangezien ik haar plek om gewoon te kunnen lopen en uitrekken heb weggenomen. Maar, ik ben nu klaar en heb me regelmatig afgevraagd: waarom doe ik dit eigenlijk? Oh ja, om de quilts die al zo lang geduldig liggen te wachten, af te krijgen ... Mijn knieën zijn het er niet mee eens, maar die hebben even rust, totdat de volgende top klaar is.
Momenteel ben ik aan het nadenken over hoe ik in 2012 verder wil gaan met bloggen en quilten. Moeilijk. Ik weet in ieder geval wel dat ik quilts wil afmaken. Heel veel quilts. En aan zo min mogelijk (lees: geen) grote quilts beginnen.

Back, but still not quite there and Secret Santa Christmas Swap

That has been quite a while, that I wrote my last post. I have been back for more than a week now, but somehow I am still not back to earth. And I have only been away for three weeks. But, we had such a wonderful time in California with Louise and in Mexico, that it is difficult to be back.

Het is weer een tijdje geleden, dat ik voor het laatst heb geschreven. Ik ben nu meer dan een week terug, maar op de een of andere manier kan ik er nog niet echt aan wennen. En we zijn 'maar' 3 weken weggeweest. California met Louise en Mexico met Laura waren zo fijn, dat het moeilijk is weer aan het normale dagelijkse leven te wennen.

This year I joined only one organized swap, the Secret Santa Christmas Swap (SSCS) with Chookyblue. Liz from Luv 2 Cre8te is/was my Secret Santa.
Once we get our parcel, we are allowed to open the ornament. Look at what Liz made me. It's so pretty!!! And ... PINK!
I love the saying on the back, that Liz stitched! And she added a tea bag (o: I'll be thinking of you then, Liz!

Dit jaar heb ik aan één georganiseerde swap meegedaan, nl. die van Chookyblue, de Secret Santa Christmas Swap (SSCS). Liz van Luv 2 Cre8te is/was mijn Secret Santa.
Als we het pakketje krijgen, mogen wij het cadeautje met de ornament openmaken. Kijk eens wat Liz voor me heeft gemaakt. Het is zo mooi!!! En ... PINK!
Is het gedichtje dat Liz op de achterkant gestitcht heeft niet leuk! Er zit ook een theezakje bij (o: Ik zal aan je denken, Liz!

I won't be blogging for quite a while. However, I do want to share some more autumn pictures with you, taken last Thursday. I always walk the same route, so Bibi can walk on her own, but, everyday I see and find something new!

Ik zal een tijdje niet bloggen. Toch wil ik nog een paar foto's met jullie delen van de prachtige herfst dit jaar. De foto's zijn afgelopen donderdag genomen. Iedere dag loop ik dezelfde route, zodat Bibi los kan lopen. Het verveelt nooit! Iedere dag ontdek ik wel iets nieuws! Geniet.

On Friday I talked with a lady, who told me she had wooden spools and lots of 'grandmother' buttons, as she called them. She would be happy to give them to me and wanted nothing for them. Well, of course I couldn't say 'no' to that! Above the spools and below lots and lots of buttons. Oh happiness!

Vrijdag sprak ik een mevrouw die nog houten spoeltjes had en 'grootmoeder' knopen, zoals zij ze noemde. Of ik ze wilde hebben. Nou en of! Daar kun je toch geen 'nee' tegen zeggen. Boven zie je de spoeltjes en hieronder de knopen. Wat een schat!

Last week I visited Jos from Cybele's Patch. Look what she found while cleaning up and reorganizing: this cutest apron, which I think was from Switzerland and she had given to her mother a long time ago. Vorige week ben ik bij Jos geweest van Cybele's Patch. Kijk eens hier, wat ze tijdens het opruimen vond: een schortje, ik dacht uit Zwitserland, dat ze ooit haar moeder cadeau heeft gedaan. Last weekend I made an Advent calendar. Each day a button should be put on until 24 December. But where to leave the buttons that are not used yet? When I saw this, I knew right away where to put them and this is the result. The little pouch is so much fun to make and done in no time. You must admit, that this is much prettier than a plastic bag!

Vorig weekeinde heb ik een Adventskalender gemaakt. Ieder dag vanaf 1 December zet ik er een button aan vast. Maar, wat doe je met de buttons die nog niet zijn gebruikt? Toen ik dit zag, wist ik het meteen. Dit kleine zakje is heel leuk en snel te maken! En, het ziet er toch veel beter uit dan wanneer je de buttons in een plastic zakje doet.

A while back I bought this. And this week I finally came to making buttons, since I needed one for my Christmas bag. I still had this tiny stitchery, so turned it into a button. I think I will have to make the right bag to it now ;o)

Friday afternoon Ger and I went to Aachen, to enjoy the beautiful weather with a cappuccino and some lovely chocolate cake. After that, we took a nice walk through the city, and look what I found: Advent buttons. I knew directly how I would use them. So, today I made this little quilt for the buttons (o: Can't wait till it is December 1!

Vrijdagmiddag zijn Ger en ik naar Aken gegaan om van het heerlijke weer te genieten met cappuccino en overheerlijke chocolade taart. Aansluitend hebben we wat rondgelopen en kijk eens wat ik gevonden heb: Advent buttons. Ik wist meteen wat ik zou maken; een klein quiltje, dat ik vandaag gemaakt heb. Ik kan niet wachten tot 1 december!

Yesterday I saw these geese flying over. I just have a small digital camera, so the pictures aren't that good. I couldn't even get all geese on the picture. The noise they make is always so impressive!

Gisteren vlogen deze ganzen over ons huis. De foto's zijn met een kleine, digitale camera gemaakt, dus de kwaliteit is niet echt goed. Ik kon niet eens alle ganzen op de foto krijgen. Het geluid dat ze maken is altijd zo indrukwekkend.

And this is my dear daughter, with whom I skype on a regular basis. I am so happy that the modern communication works so well. Otherwise I would miss her even more. In a few weeks we will finally be able to be with her for several days (o: Doesn't she look happy!

En hier is mijn lieve dochter. We skypen regelmatig. Ik ben zo blij dat de moderne communicatie zo goed werkt, anders zou ik haar nog meer missen. Over een tijdje zullen we eindelijk een dikke week bij haar zijn (o: Ziet ze er niet blijuit!

Last week I have been paper piecing for the first time since very long. And ... it actually worked out well (o: Magical tip for me: cut big pieces. This might be a waste of fabric, but with the tiny pieces of this pattern, there wasn't that much to waste (o: Patience was a golden rule too.

Vorige week heb ik me dan toch weer eens aan paper piecing gewaagd. Ik vond dit zo'n leuk patroon. En ja hoor, het lukte! Gouden tip voor mij: stukken groot genoeg knippen en geduld. Heel veel geduld. Aangezien de stukjes klein zijn van dit werkje, ging er niet veel stof verloren.

Happy Spooky Halloween

We have had some lovely autumn days last week. Below you can see some off the things Ger and I saw during our walk yesterday morning, when the sun was not shining yet.

Wat hebben we vorige week toch een aantal mooie dagen gehad! Tijdens onze wandeling gisteren, toen de zon nog niet scheen, zijn Ger en ik veel moois tegengekomen.

Lately, my stitching has been newly inspired by some wonderful blogs. One of them is Aimee's Little Dear Tracks. An amazing blog. She also published some very interesting books.
Because the colors and design really inspired me, I decided to join Celebrate Color, Needlepoint. Please click on the picture for a closer look.
The fabrics I used are Kate Spain's Terrain. Only after finishing the stitchery, did I notice that this line fit perfectly to the stitchery.

Goodbye, Blue Quilt

As many of you know, blue is not my color. But, after finishing this one, I think blue can be very pretty.
This quilt does have a little history. I think I started making it about 10 years ago. It was to be a king size quilt, but half way I stopped. It didn't make me happy.
Then, about 2 years ago my SIL told me she would love me to make her a quilt ... someday. When I asked her what color, she said blue. And look there. The middle part was already finished. The outer borders give it a great touch, I think!
First I wanted to quilt it along the squares, but Laura had a better idea (click on the picture below). I was a teeny tiny bit sad, to give this quilt a new home. But, I know it will be cared for (o:

Zoals de meesten van jullie weten, is blauw niet mijn kleur. Maar het eindresultaat van deze brengt mij toch op andere gedachten. Deze blauwe quilt heeft een kleine geschiedenis. Ongeveer 10 jaar geleden ben ik ermee begonnen. Het moest een quilt voor een tweepersoonsbed worden. Halverwege had ik er geen zin meer in, omdat de quilt me niet blij maakte.
En toen kwam mijn schoonzus in de picture. Ze vertelde me dat ze het heel leuk zou vinden, als ik haar eens een quilt wilde maken. Goed, maar welke kleur. Blauw. Blauw - ja, aan zoiets was ik ooit eens begonnen. En ja hoor, het middenstuk was al af. De buitenranden maken de quilt helemaal af.
Eerst wilde ik vierkanten quilten, maar Laura bracht me op een ander idee. Klik op de foto hieronder om het te zien. Het deed mij een ietsie pietsie beetje pijn om deze quilt een nieuw thuis te geven, maar ik weet dat er goed voor gezorgd zal worden (o:

These are the last roses from my parent's garden this fall. Look at the lovely vase one of my nieces made for my mother's birthday. The perfect fit for these beautiful roses. I know my parents can't wait until next year, when they start blooming again, so that they have a rose on their kitchen table every day.

Dit zijn de laatste rozen van de rozenstruik van mijn ouders dit jaar. Kijk eens naar het mooie vaasje, dat een van mijn nichtjes voor mijn moeder heeft gemaakt. Hét vaasje voor deze rozen! Ik weet dat mijn ouders niet kunnen wachten, totdat ze het vaasje weer met deze rozen kunnen vullen, zodat ze er iedere dag van kunnen genieten!

Yes, I did it again. I made another bag. This time for my 10 year old niece. She needed a new bag, so her shoes would fit in better. I was almost going to keep it myself ...

Ja, ik heb het weer gedaan. Nog een tas genaaid. Dit keer voor mijn nichtje van 10. Ze had een nieuwe tas nodig, zodat haar schoenen er goed in zouden passen. Ik had de tas bijna zelf gehouden.

On Saturday my mother turned 75. Another niece made this beautiful wreath for her. So fresh, so pretty.

Op zaterdag is mijn moeder 75 jaar geworden. Een ander nichtje heeft deze krans gemaakt. Zo mooi en fris!

Last week I received a package from Melanie with some beautiful pieces of fabric she took with her from her visit to Egypt with her daughter. She cut the pieces from scarfs and sent them to her Helping Hands. While playing with the pieces, suddenly a scarf popped up in my mind and I made it immediately. I am wearing it right now. Perfect weather for it! the colors are so pretty!!

Vorige week kwam er een pakketje met stofjes binnen van Melanie, die zij had meegenomen toen ze met haar dochter in Egypte was. De stofjes komen van verschillende sjaals, die ze aan haar Helping Hands heeft gestuurd. Terwijl ik met de stofjes aan het spelen was, wist ik opeens wat ik ermee zou doen. Ik ben meteen aan de slag gegaan en dit is het resultaat. Heerlijke sjaal, die ik op dit moment draag. De kleuren zijn zo mooi!

Oops I did it again ...

Yes, I made another bag. The bag in the previous post was meant to be for my trip to California and Mexico, to take with me on the plain, but it is way too big.

So, when I saw this bag on Gwen's blog, I knew it would be the perfect one. Not too big, not too small and lots of pockets. Seven!! 6 on the outside (my e-reader even fits into it) and one pocket inside. Oh, I love it!

And, just like Stephanie's patterns, this pattern was also tested by quite some people. It makes a pattern good and easy to follow.

Ja, ik heb weer een tas gemaakt. De tas in het vorige bericht was bestemd voor mijn reis naar California en Mexico om mee te nemen in het vliegtuig, maar hij is echt veel te groot!

Dus, toen ik deze tas op Gwens blog zag, wist ik dat dit de juiste tas zou zijn. Niet te groot, niet te klein en met veel zakken. Zeven in totaal! 6 aan de buitenkant (zelfs mijn e-reader past erin) en eentje van binnen.

Helemaal ik!

En net als de patronen van Stephanie, is dit patroon ook door meerdere mensen getest. Dat maakt een patroon zo veel beter!

September Bow-Wow-Wow Bag

Together with Melanie and Ulla, I finished another bag for our Bag Club. Ulla and Melanie stayed with the plan, to make a bag from the Bag Bible, but I wanted to finish a bag that I had cut at the beginning of this year and wanted to finish. To tell you the truth, I never thought I could make a bag like this, but I think it has a lot to do with the experience I got from making the so well described bag patterns by Stephanie.

Samen met Melanie en Ulla heb ik weer een tas gemaakt voor onze Bag Club. Ulla en Melanie hebben een tas uit de Bag Bible gemaakt, maar ik wilde dit keer liever de tas afmaken waaraan ik begin dit jaar begonnen was. Om eerlijk te zijn, had ik niet gedacht ooit zo een tas te kunnen maken. Maar, oefening baart kunst en de oefening heb ik gehad, dank zij de goede patronen van Stephanie.

Bibi was niet echt onder de indruk.

Even though I wasn't going to make another Le Petite, I couldn't resisit making Full House in my own version. I was also inspired by Carrie's pattern Cracked Pots. The quilt makes me very happy! So bright and colorful.

Ik had me voorgenomen geen Le Petite meer te maken, maar moest gewoon Full House maken. Ik heb dan wel mijn eigen versie gemaakt, waardoor ik ook door het patroon Cracked Pots van Carrie geïnspireerd ben. Dit quiltje maakt mij echt blij, met de vrolijke en heldere kleuren!

On Sunday we celebrated my father's birthday. My sisters didn't quite manage to get the 85 candles on the birthday cake, but my dad is still able to blow them out in one blow (I think ...). Next to him my mother, who will turn 75 in October. And, in June they were married 45 years.

Zondag is mijn vader 85 jaar geworden. En, zoals jullie zien, hebben we dat o.a. met een heerlijke taart gevierd. Ik denk niet dat het mijn zussen gelukt is 85 kaarsjes op de taart te plaatsen, maar het zijn er in ieder geval heel veel. Naast mijn vader staat mijn moeder, die in oktober 75 wordt. En, in juni waren ze 45 jaar getrouwd.

Vandaag heeft Ger een dagje vrij genomen. We zijn gezellig naar Den Bosch geweest. Uiteraard zijn we met een Bossche bol en een lekkere kop cappuccino begonnen (o:

Look at the bright silicone moulds I found for small cakes.

Kijk eens naar de vrolijke silicone vormpjes die ik heb gevonden om kleine cakes in te bakken.

I had finished my handles to the four baskets of the Retro Nine Patch basket blocks, however, I was not happy with them. So, I decided to unpick them (which I don't do often) and do them differently. This quilt is too pretty to have ugly handles.

Ik had de hendels van de mandjes af voor de Retro Nine Patch mandjes blokken, maar ik vond ze echt niet mooi. Dus, heb ik ze uitgehaald (dat doe ik echt niet vaak - dan moet het al heel erg zijn) en heb ze anders gemaakt. De quilt is te mooi om mandjes met lelijke hendels te hebben!

Bari's Sampler, Retro Nine Patch Paper Piecing and Baking

I finished Barí's Sampler and love it (o: Bari did a wonderful job in tutoring stitches and now she has a very good post on the basics on stitchery. Even if you're an experienced stitcher, should read it. I have learned some new things about threads.

Ik heb Bari's Sampler afgemaakt en ben er erg tevreden mee! Ze heeft veel tutorials voor bepaalde steken en nu heeft ze een post gemaakt over de beginselen van stitchery. Zelfs ervaren stitchers kunnen er iets nieuws leren!

I've been paper piecing this weekend. Some people who know me, know that I don't like paper piecing. But, I must say, I did enjoy making these baskets for the Retro Nine Patch quilt I am making which Lyn from Bluebird Quilts has designed. It's a very pretty and happy quilt. Thank you so much, Lyn for having shared this free pattern!

Bari's Sewing Room Sampler. I 'cheated' on the sewing machinge. In the pattern it is filled with French knots. I only added the French knots to some parts. Lots and lots of French knots don't make me happy. A few are okay (o:

Bari's Sewing Room Sampler. Ik heb een beetje gefoeteld (echt Limburgs!) met de naaimachine. In het patroon wordt de machine gevuld met French knots. Ik heb maar een paar onderdelen gevuld. Een paar French knots wil ik nog wel maken, maar er een heel stuk mee opvullen. Nee, dat is echt niets mijn ding.

Yesterday we moved the last things to Thijme's own new living space in Tilburg. He did a wonderful job furnishing it with second hand furniture that he was able to find via Marktplaats.

Gisteren hebben we de laatste spulletjes naar Thijme's nieuwe woonplek in Tilburg verhuisd. Bijna al zijn meubels heeft hij voor in prikkie op Marktplaats gevonden. Ongelooflijk, wat voor moois je daar kunt vinden. En Thijme heeft er echt een neus voor.

Today I finished Stephanie's Loft Tote, another gorgeous bag designed by Stephanie and written and designed in such a way, that it was fun, easy and quite fast to make. This time I made no mistakes, because I read the directions closely and followed them the way they were described. Why don't I always do that?
This is the third bag I have made together with the European-Bag-Club ladies, Ulla and Melanie. We all chose a different Loft Creations bag, that we bought here. Please go to the other two ladies, to see their gorgeous bags! And while you're traveling around, also take a look at Stephanie's cover shooting for her newest bag pattern. She hasn't revealed her bag yet, but I am sure it is going to be one of the next bags I will be making!

Vandaag heb ik Stephanies Loft Tote afgemaakt. Dit is openieuw een heel leuk patroon, dat gemakkelijk en vrij snel te maken is. Dit keer heb ik geen fouten gemaakt, omdat ik de duidelijke aanwijzingen nauwkeurig gelezen en gevolgd heb. Dat maakt het leven zo veel eenvoudiger!
Dit is de derde tas die ik samen met European-Bag-Club dames heb gemaakt, Ulla en Melanie. We hebben ieder een ander patroon gekozen, dat we hier gekocht hebben. Ga ook eens bij de andere twee dames langs en terwijl je toch aan het reizen bent, ga dan ook even naar Stephanies blog. Daar laat ze een cover shooting zien van haar nieuwste tas patroon. Ze laat de tas nog niet in zijn geheel zien, maar ik ben er zeker van, dat het een van mijn volgende tassen wordt (o:

I have been working on some small stitcheries and am really enjoying it.

Ik heb aan een aantal kleine stitcheries gewerkt en vind het reuze leuk.

I think I made the fabric choice due to the autumn weather we have had last week.

Ik denk dat ik voor herfst stofjes gekozen heb, gezien het weer van vorige week.

Now that I have made my fabric choice I will be using for the bag that I forgot to make together with my bag friends Melanie and Ulla (thank you bag ladies for waiting for me before you post yours) and have practiced on making bis (that's fun!!!) I am now ready to make the bag.

Ik was helemaal vergeten, dat ik samen met Melanie en Ulla voor 1 augustus een tas zou maken. Nu dat ik de stof heb uitgezocht en geoefend heb bias band te maken, kan ik aan de tas beginnen. Melanie en Ulla waren zo aardig op mij te wachten, voordat ze het zouden posten. Bedankt dames!!!

Vintage Spools meets French General

I finished my Vintage Spools quilt, designed by Sephanie from Loft Creations. This was a wonderful fun project to make and I love the result with the French General fabrics! If you click on the picture, you can take a closer look and see that the borders are made with the sides of the fabrics. French General always has such pretty borders on their fabrics and now I could finally use them (o:

In the original pattern, Stephanie used ric rac for the sashing. I am still not quite sure whether I will do that. I think it looks very pretty this way!

Mexcio, here she comes!

Yesterday we brought Laura to Airport Brussels to fetch her plane to Mexico (o: The luggage you see below is what she took with her, to stay there for 180 days, including backpacking for 2 months. Early this morning she let us know she arrived safely!!!

Gisteren hebben we Laura naar vliegveld Zaventum gebracht voor haar reis naar Mexico. De koffers die ze mee heeft zijn voor 180 dagen verblijf. Daarin zitten ook de spullen voor als ze 2 maanden erop uit trekt.

Vanochtend vroeg heeft ze ons laten weten, dat ze veilig aangekomen is!!!

As my regular readers know, I am a big fan of Stephanie's patterns. They are well written, step by step, always tested by her supremes and fun and easy to make. The result is stunning everytime I finish one of her projects.

Mary Jane joining Oak Park

Together with Melanie and Ulla, I made the Mary Jane bag, designed by Stephanie. You might remember this one, which was so much fun, that I decided to join Ulla and Melanie in making another one. I made it for a special friend of mine, who uses it almost every day!

You might have guessed, that her favorite color is purple.

Samen met Melanie en Ulla heb ik nog eens de Mary Jane tas gemaakt, ontworpen door Stephanie. Misschien herinner je je deze nog. Ik heb de tas voor een speciale vriendin gemaakt, die hem bijna iedere dag gebruikt.

Thijme is geslaagd!!!

Vanmiddag kwam dan eindelijk het verlossende telefoontje. Het is en blijft spannend!

Nu is hij naar school om zijn cijferlijst te halen en een glas te heffen op de goede afloop.

Wat is het toch een heerlijk gevoel, vooral voor Thijme, maar ook voor zijn ouders (o:

Thijme graduated from High School!

This afternoon he was finally called to tell him he graduated. It is always exciting.

He is now at school, to pick up his grade list and drink a glass to the good ending.

This is such a wonderful feeling, mainly for Thijme, but also for his parents!

Proud of my son

Here is a proud mother with her son. It was taken last Friday after Thijme had his final exam in Latin, ready for the prom that same evening.

He is now having a good time in Spain with friends for 10 days (o:

Hier staat een trotse moeder met haar zoon. De foto is afgelopen vrijdag genomen, na zijn laatste examen en klaar voor het gala, diezelfde avond.

Thijme zit nu voor 10 dagen lekker in Spanje. Een welverdiende vakantie!

I couldn't help myself to make another Oak Park bag, designed by Stephanie which you can find here. This time I decided to make a natural version. As you can see, the handles are different. I didn't read the directions while making this one. The panels were all quilted and then I noticed I had to sew in the tabs. Oh well, it looks nice like this too, I think (o:

Lesson learned (as Jackie often writes and I love her lessons): read and follow directions closely, even if you are making a pattern a second time!

Ik kon het niet laten om nog een Oak Park tas te maken, ontworpen door Stephanie en die je hier kunt krijgen. Dit keer heb ik voor een meer naturelle kleur gekozen. Zoals je kunt zien, zijn de hengsels anders. Ik had de beschrijving niet gelezen, terwijl ik deze tas aan het maken was. De pandjes waren al helemaal gequilt, toen ik erachter kwam, dat de tabs er nog tussen moesten. Ach ja, zo ziet die er ook wel leuk uit (o:

Geleerde les (zoals Jackie altijd schrijft als iets fout is gegaan): lees en volg de beschrijving nauwkeurig, ook als je een patroon voor de tweede keer maakt!

Oak Park and Dogs

I have been enjoying myself with making three bags this week. I was inspired by Stephanie's Modern Mary Jane retro bag which I won, including the lovely kit (o: It reminded me of how fun Stephanie's patterns are to make, so after finishing the retro bag for a second time, I decided to order her Oak Park pattern. I fell in love with it again, after I saw this version.

This bag has been quite a challenge for me, because I wasn't sure about the green fabric. But since it comes back in the flower fabric, which Satu gave to me a while back, I thought it would be okay. It will be me fancy summer bag (o:

Deze week heb ik mezelf vermaakt met het maken van drie tassen. Ik werd geïnspireerd door Stephanie's Modern Mary Jane retro tas, die ik gewonnen had, samen met de stofjes. Tijdens het maken herinnerde ik me, hoe leuk het is om Stephanie's patronen te maken en hoe goed ze omschreven zijn. En toen ik niet zo lang geleden de nieuwe versie van Oak Park zag, wist ik dat ik deze ook wilde maken.

Deze tas was een aardige uitdaging voor mij, omdat ik twijfelde over het groene stofje. Maar omdat het in de bloemen stof terugkomt, die ik een tijdje geleden van Satu heb gekregen, vond ik toch wel dat het bij elkaar paste. Dit wordt mijn fancy zomer tas (o:

I found the pattern of this bag on internet. I am glad I had made two of Stephanie's bags before starting this one, because there was a lot of figuring out. At the end I just took over the templates and made the bag the way I thought was right. Next time I will make the handles a bit longer, so that I can also carry it over my shoulder. Inside the bag there are two pockets, one for my smart phone and one for my car papers.

Het patroon van deze tas heb ik op internet gevonden. Ik was wel blij, dat ik twee tassen van Stephanie had gemaakt, voordat ik hiermee begon. Uiteindelijk heb ik de patroondelen overgenomen en heb de tas gemaakt zoals ik dacht dat het moest.

De volgende keer zal ik de hengsels wat langer maken, zodat ik de tas ook over mijn schouder kan dragen. Binnen in de tas zijn nog twee zakjes voor m'n smart phone en autopapieren.

A few weeks back I was the lucky winner of not only Stephanie's newest bag pattern Modern Mary Jane, but also of the kit that went to it. This bag was so much fun to make.

Stephanie has designed many more lovely bag patterns, which you can find here and just recently she designed and published her very first quilt with the lovely name "Barefoot in the park". If you are going for a picnic this summer, you should definitely make this quilt!

Een paar weken geleden, was ik de gelukkige winnar van het patroon EN de kit van Stephanie's nieuwste tas Modern Mary Jane. Deze tas was weer zo leuk te maken.

Stephanie heeft nog meer mooie tassen ontworpen, die je hier kunt vinden, voor een leuke prijs. En onlangs heeft ze ook haar eerste quilt ontworpen met de naam "Barefoot in the park". Als je deze zomer van plan bent te gaan picknicken, dan zou je eigenlijk deze quilt moeten maken.

I have also been working on Lyn's Retro Nine Patch free BOM. After I finished the fifth and last stitchery, I will take a close-up of each stitchery. The patterns are so pretty and Lyn chose such happy and bright colors. This picture doesn't do the blocks right!

And now I will take you with us to the Elephant Parade - lets Heerlen smile. It has been in Heerlen for several weeks and we took Louise to see them. The elephants were made by different artists with very different themes. There were 37 of them, but we didn't see them all. I will show you the ones that impressed us most.

En nu neem ik jullie mee naar de Elephant Parade - laat Heerlen glimlachen. Deze was een paar weken in Heerlen te zien. We hebben Louise meegenomen om ze te bewonderen en te laten zien dat Heerlen ook zijn mooie kanten heeft. De olifanten zijn door verschillende artiesten gemaakt, met verschillende thema's. Er waren 37 olifanten, maar we hebben ze niet allemaal gezien. Ik laat jullie die zien, die de meeste indruk op ons hebben gemaakt.

This week my dear friend Louise from San José, California came to visit us. Louise was my fourth and fifth grade teacher and thanks to her, I decided to become a teacher.

Over the past three years we have seen each others every May! She was with us twice; we were with her last year. We hope to visit her again in November.

Here we are having a nice Café Latte and Cappuccino in Aachen, together with Ger.

Deze week was mijn lieve vriendin Louise uit San José, California er. Louise was mijn basisschool juf in de 4e en 5e klas (nu groep 6 en 7). Door haar ben ik juf van de basisschool geworden.

De afgelopen drie jaar hebben we elkaar steeds in mei gezien. Zij was twee keer bij on en vorig jaar waren wij bij haar.

Hier zijn we in Aken met een Café Latte en Cappuccino, in Aken, samen met Ger.

My Le Petite Schnibbles, Brocante. It looks like lots and lots of work. It is lots of work, but less than I had expected, due to the clever cutting. Carrie (Miss Rosie's Quilts)once again made an incredible pattern which was lots of fun to make! The fabrics are by Pink Tula - Plum.

Dit is mijn Le Petite Schnibbles, Brocante. Het ziet er naar heel veel werk uit. Het is veel werk, maar veel minder dan ik had verwacht, dank zij het slimme snijwerk. A wonderful suprise that was given to me this week! It brings so much sun in our home!

Een grote verrassing werd deze week gebracht. De bos bloemen geeft zo veel licht!

And see here, a lovely bag Melanie gave me when we met in Amsterdam. I called it 'The moving bag', because it moved from Southport to Amsterdam to Heerlen and the trees give so much movement to the whole. Click on the picture and you will see that the two sides of the bag are different. And also take a close look at the braided handles. Thank you so much, my dear friend Melanie!

En kijk eens wat Melanie mij in Amsterdam gaf. Ik heb de tas 'The moving bag' genoemd, omdat de tas van Southport naar Amsterdam naar Heerlen is gereisd en de bomen geven zo veel beweging in het geheel. Als je op de foto klikt, kun je zien dat beide kanten van de tas anders zijn. En kijk ook eens naar de gevlochten hengsels. Bedankt lieve Melanie!

Melanie knows that Ger and Thijme are big football fans. Look at the lovely fan items she got them: 2 different mugs, guest towels and beautiful coasters. Thijme decided that he should have both mugs when he is going to live on his own in August. I am not sure yet, if Ger will agree to this.

Melanie weet dat Ger en Thijme grote passieve voetbalfanaten zijn. Ze heeft voor hen fan artikelen meegebracht van Liverpool. Voor ieder een andere mok, gastendoekjes en onderzetters. Thijme vindt dat de 2 mokken met hem moeten meegaan, als hij op kamers gaat wonen. Ik weet nog niet of Ger het daarmee eens is.

A week ago on Friday, I was suddenly inspired to make some small things. A pink bag for my sister, 2 iPhone covers and an iPad2 sleeve for Laura. Thijme even asked me to make a sleeve for his iPad2. Wow, this is the first time he actually asked me to make him something. I didn't know how fast I had to finish it!!! I'll show it to you in the next post.

Vrijdag een week geleden werd ik opeens geïnspireerd een aantal kleine dingen te maken. Een roze tas voor een zus, 2 iPhone etuis en een iPad2 sleeve voor Laura. Zelfs Thijme vroeg my hem een sleeve te maken. Dit was de eerste keer dat hij mij gevraagd heeft iets voor hem te maken. Ik wist niet hoe snel ik ermee beginnen moest!!! A while back my youngest sister visited me with her three children. When her oldest daughter Lieselot saw these stamps, she asked me if she could have the sheet. I said she could, but did want her to do something with it. And look what she did: she framed the sheet and glued jig saw puzzle pieces on it. Now, if that is not original and pretty, I don't know what is!

Een tijdje geleden was mijn jongste zus bij me met haar drie kinderen. Toen de oudste dochter, Lieselot deze postzegels zag, vroeg ze of ze ze mocht hebben. 'Als je er maar iets mee doet', had ik haar gezegd. En kijk eens wat ze ermee gedaan heeft. Op het lijstje heeft ze puzzelstukjes geplakt. Eerst wilde ze van twee verschillende puzzels stukjes gebruiken, maar dat vond me zus net iets te veel van het goede.

Amsterdam - small projects - endless summer - Heerlen and more

On Tuesday Ger and I headed for Amsterdam to meet dear Melanie from House Elves and her husband, who stayed in Amsterdam for several days. What a delight it was, to finally meet Melanie (o: The weather was beautiful and we had a wonderful time, chatting, going to the quilting shop Den Haan en Wagenmakers, meeting Annelies, who works there, chatting, more chatting, walking, having a nice drink outside, chatting, visiting the Begijnhof, chatting, another nice sit outside etc. etc. Laura joined us half way, which was lots of fun too (o:

Op dinsdag zijn hebben Ger en ik de trein naar Amsterdam genomen om daar eindelijk Melanie van House Elves en haar man te ontmoeten. Zij verbleven een paar dagen in Amsterdam. Wat was het leuk, om Melanie eindelijk in 'het echt' te mogen ontmoeten! Het weer was prachtig die dag en we hebben samen een heel mooie tijd gehad, al pratende de quiltwinkel Den Haan en Wagenmakers te bezoeken, waar ook Annelies was, die daar werkt. We konden heerlijk buiten zitten en halverwege kwam Laura er ook gezellig bij. Wat was het een heerlijk gezellige dag!

On Sunday Ger and I took a wonderful walk from our home. The weather was beautiful once again. On the pictures you can see, that spring is really there! Look at the buds above, that are almost exploding to reach for the sun!

Op zondag zijn Ger en ik heerlijk gaan wandelen vanuit on huis. Het weer was weer eens prachtig. Op de foto's kun je zien, dat de lente er echt is! En kijk eens naar die knoppen, die niet kunnen wachten, om eruit te komen.

Here are some of the mug rugs that reached their recipients. I am still making more. They are so much fun, being able to experiment in the most fun way.

Hier zijn enkele van de mok matten die nu hun nieuw huis hebben gevonden. Er zijn er nog enkele in de maak. Ze zijn zo leuk om te doen, juist omdat ze zo klein zijn en je van alles kunt proberen.

It has been a long time, since Ger and I could take a nice long walk on a Sunday morning. It was was cold, but the sun warmed our faces. I keep loving these trees with mistletoe!

Het is heel wat weken geleden, dat Ger en ik een lekkere zondagochtend wandeling hebben kunnen maken. Het was koud, maar de zon warmde onze gezichten. Deze bomen met maretak blijven me boeien!

En langs deze boom zijn we al heel wat keren gelopen, maar het is me nog nooit opgevallen. De gravering is aardig hoog in de boom. Daar zou ik de volgende keer een foto van moeten nemen.

On Friday Ger, Thijme and I visited Tilburg. It will very likely be the place where Thijme is going to study next school year. It is a very nice city with lovely building and a textile history. I hope to show you more about the textile history the next time I go there.

Vrijdag zijn Ger, Thijme en ik naar Tilburg gegaan. Het zal zeer waarschijnlijk de stad zijn, waar Thijme gaat studeren. Het is een mooie stad met oude gebouwen en textiel verleden. Ik hoop jullie daar een andere keer meer over te kunnen laten zien.

During our last Quilting Bee, Mai had the great idea, to make Mug Rugs and introduced me to a new addiction. Since last Thursday, I have completed seven MR of which two have already found a new home. The top one below I made for myself.

Since I needed my Dresden Plate ruler for this pattern, I finally got the chance to experiment with it. If you look closely, I have made part of a Dresden Plate on one of the MRs.

Tijdens de laatste Quilting Bee had Mai het geweldige idee, Mug Rugs (mok matjes) te maken en sindsdien heb ik er een nieuwe verslaving bij. Sinds vorige week donderdag heb ik er al 7 gemaakt, waarvan er 2 een nieuw huisje gevonden hebben. De bovenste op de foto heb ik voor mezelf gemaakt.

En omdat we de Dresden Plate liniaal voor dit patroon nodig hadden, ben ik eindelijk eens met die liniaal gaan experimenteren. Als je goed kijkt, zie je dat een van de MRs een deel van een Dresden Plate heeft.

I have also been working on my Garden Flowers. It's the first time I've sewn the flowers together and I must say, I do like the result.

Ik heb ook aan mijn bloementuintje gewerkt. Het is de eerste keer dat ik hexagon bloemen aan elkaar naai en ik moet zeggen, dat ik het resultaat toch wel heel leuk vind!

On Sunday Ger and I went to Laura in Amsterdam, to escape the carnaval craziness. This statue meets you, when you enter the bus station in Heerlen.

Op zondag zijn Ger en ik naar Laura gegaan in Amsterdam om de carnavalsgekte te ontvluchten. Dit beeldje is het eerste wat je ziet als je het busstation van Heerlen binnenkomt.

As you can see, we had a beautiful sunny day! I just love the diversity of Amsterdam!

Zoals je kunt zien, hadden we prachtig weer. Ik ben dol op de diversiteit van Amsterdam!

You might wonder why I took this picture. Well, there were four trams standing on the bridge crossing and couldn't move on, because they were blocking each others way on the crossings. It took quite some time, before everything got settled.

Je vraagt je misschien af, waarom ik deze foto heb genomen. Hier staan vier trams op een kruising op een brug en blokkeren elkaars weg, doordat ze op de kruising staan. Het heeft een tijdje geduurd, voordat het tramverkeer weer verder kon.

I finished my Le Petite project for February, the Sweet Spot Schnibbles, just in time. It is made with stash fabrics from my mother. The solid pink is much brighter. I tried to get it into the picture, but I guess the weather was just too gloomy, to make the pink shine.

En, wanneer ben ik begonnen? Juist ja, afgelopen vrijdag. Ongelooflijk! Ik hoop dat Mai niet boos op me zal zijn, als ik ze niet alle 24 af heb ;o) Krijg ik dan toch het patroon om de quilt af te maken?

On Friday I went to my aunt's 79th birthday in Egmond. I made these two mug rugs for her. So much fun to make!

I finally got my idea for the backing of my sampler quilt. I finished the 12 blocks for this quilt in 2009, the top in 2010 and now I want to finish the whole quilt by April 2011 (hubby's birthday ;o) What you see is a stripe that is to join the two parts of the backing. I didn't want it to be too plain, with all the star blocks.

Eindelijk weet ik nu hoe ik de achterkant van mijn sampler quilt wil maken. De 12 blokken voor deze quilt heb ik in 2009 gemaakt, de bovenkant in 2010 en het is de bedoeling dat de quilt in zijn geheel af is in april 2011 (verjaardag van mijn mannetje ;o). Op de foto zie je een strip, die de twee delen van de achterkant moeten verbinden. Ik wilde de achterkant niet te eenvoudig maken, met al die sterren aan de voorkant.

I have also been working on Lyn's second stitchery to the Retro Nine Patch BOM, but haven't quite finished it. It is so much fun, to work on that stitchery, with the lovely colors she chose.

I finished my February Hearts, a sew-along designed by Robyn at Daisy Quilts. It was a fun project to finish, for this time of the year!

This is the February Le Petite, organized by Sherri and Sinta, that I am working on. It is a Schnibbles, my favorite patterns, this time Sweet Spot.

The fabrics I used are from my mother, who was cleaning up her fabric stash. I only had to add the beige solid from my stash. So, once again, no new fabrics bought!

De stofjes heb ik van mijn moeder gekregen, die haar voorraad aan het opruimen was. Ik heb alleen de beige stof hoeven toe te voegen uit mijn voorraad. Dus, opnieuw geen stofjes gekocht!

I finished the top of the Christmas Elves by Gail Pan, but won't show it until I have the whole top finished. Furthermore, I finished the set for a New Beginnings, organized by the Gum Tree Designers, but forgot to take a picture of the set.

De top van de Christmas Elves van Gail Pan is af, maar ik laat pas een foto zien, als de quilt helemaal af is. Verder heb ik het setje voor New Beginnings gemaakt, dat door Gum Tree Designers is georganiseerd, maar ben vergeten een foto ervan te nemen.

I showed you the first heart to the February-Hearts-sew-along last week. And here is the quilt top. I hadn't realized that I should have used a solid for the background fabric, so I won't make part 3 to this pattern, a cute stitchery to the hearts. One day I will make this quilt again, with the stitchery. So, now I am ready to finish it. One more week to go (o:

And, I finished the last four blocks of the Christmas Elves stitchery quilt by Gail Pan. I ordered the backing yesterday at Canton Village Quilt Works, so now it is time to sew the blocks together, make the border and wait for the backing to come.

En, ik heb de laatste 4 blokken van de Christmas Elves stitchery quilt gemaakt, van Gail Pan. Gisteren heb ik de achtergrond besteld bij Canton Village Quilt Works, dus deze week ga ik de blokken samennaaien, de rand eromheen zetten en wachten op de achtergrond.

I also finished the first block to the Visions of Christmas BOM. I am stitching these blocks for a dear friend of mine, who will then make a quilt with it (o: (I put the block on a piece of Christmas fabric, so it is not the border ;o)

Ook heb ik het eerste blokje van de Visions of Christmas af. Die blokken stitch ik voor een lieve vriendin. Zij mag er dan uiteindelijk een quilt van maken (o: (het blokje is op een stuk kerststof gelegd, dus het is niet de rand ;o)

En tenslotte heb ik nog vier blokken voor de stitchery quilt Love Is van Paula gemaakt. Als je van plan bent, deze ooit eens te maken, zorg er dan voor dat je het patroon zo snel mogelijk download, want Paula haalt het eerdaags van haar blog.

I promissed myself, that I would not order any new fabrics, except (yes, there is always an 'except') if I need some for the border, backing and/or binding to finish a quilt. And, I came through January not ordering any fabrics. It is so nice to use fabrics from my lovely stash (lots of FQ bundles :o) Sometimes it does hurt a bit to cut into them, but like the Hearts-Sew-Along and the Love Is stitchery, it does look very pretty!

Ik heb mezelf beloofd, geen nieuwe stoffen te bestellen, behalve (ja, er zijn altijd uitzonderingen die de regel bevestigen), als ik het nodig heb voor de rand, achterkant en binding om een quilt af te maken. En, ik ben door januari gekomen, zonder een cm stof te bestellen. Is dat goed of is dat goed!?! Het is heerlijk, om stofjes uit mijn verzameling te gebruiken (ik heb veel FQ bundles ;o), maar soms doet het ook een beetje pijn. Maar, zoals de Heart-Sew-Along en de Love Is stitchery quilt, ziet het er wel heel mooi uit!

When I saw this on Bev's blog and found this link to it on Paula's blog, I knew I had to make it for my dear friend Louise! I found the fabrics in my stash, the FQ bundle Tulip Time by Renee Nanneman. It is the perfect match to this project!

Toen ik dit op Bev's blog vond en deze link naar Paula's blog, wist ik dat ik deze moest maken voor mijn lieve vriendin Louise! De stoffen die ik ervoor gebruik heb ik in mijn voorraad gevonden, de FQ bundle Tulip Time van Renee Nanneman. Het is de perfecte stof voor dit project!

My Schnibbles for January is done: Mon Ami. Quilted and all. Instead of 25 stars, I made 16 stars and I changed the border. I didn't want the wallhanging to be too big, because it is a swap present for the KerStruil. The S for Schnibbles (o: Once again, I really enjoyed making a Schnibbles!

Mijn Schnibbles voor januari is af: Mon Ami. Hij is gequilt en al. In plaats van 25 sterren, heb ik er 16 gemaakt en ik heb de rand veranderd. Ik wilde niet dat het wandkleed te groot zou worden, omdat het voor de kerStruil is: de S voor Schnibbles (o: En opnieuw heb ik veel plezier gehad in het maken van een Schnibbles!

This week I finished the three blocks I was behind on the Mystery quilt and I made the January block. At the end of one of the blocks, I had piece left over. I am still wondering if I should put it in, because you can't really see it. Funny, how that works.

Deze week heb ik de drie blokken van de Mystery quilt afgemaakt, die ik achter lag en ik heb die voor januari gemaakt. Bij een blok bleef er op het einde een stukje over. Ik vond iets al vreemd, maar dacht dat ik te grote naden had gemaakt... Ik weet nog niet of ik het stukje ertussen zet.

After reading Suzie's post, I decided to make some Quilt As You Go blocks for Jan, who is using them to make quilts for those who lost so much in Queensland. I only made three, but then I thought if 11 more people join me to make three from their scraps, then Jan will have enough to make a quilt of ca. 40"x 70". So please have a look and start searching for some scraps. It is also a great way to use your batting scraps! Have fun!

Nadat ik Suzie's post had gelezen, besloot ik om ook een paar Quilt As You Go blocks voor Jan te maken. Ze gebruikt ze om quilts te maken voor al die mensen die alles verloren hebben in Queensland. Ik heb er maar drie gemaakt, maar ik dacht als nu nog eens 11 mensen er drie maken, dan heeft Jan er genoeg om een quilt van 40" x 70" te maken. Neem dus even een kijkje en verzamel je scraps. Het is ook een goede manier om je batting scraps te verwerken! Veel plezier.

This week we had our monthly Quilting Bee, that is organized by Marie-Jozé. Last year we started a mystery quilt. The first part was the heart and the second part the pinwheels. Since I didn't have enough yellow and I really want to use my stash, I decided to use other solids.

The next part will be making 24 stars and after that we will be told how to put those into the quilt. Very mysterious!

Deze week was de eerste maandelijkse Quilting Bee van 2011, die door Marie-Jozé georganiseerd wordt. Vorig jaar zijn we met een mystery quilt begonnen. Dit zijn de eerste twee delen samengevoegd. Ik had niet genoeg geel, maar omdat ik alles uit mijn stash wil pakken, heb ik voor andere solids gekozen. Voor de volgende keer maken we 24 sterren waarna we te horen krijgen, hoe deze tot een quilt gevormd worden. Heel mysterieus!

At the QB, Gerda, Mariëlle and Marie-Jozé showed us how to make these gorgeous little owls. We also got the pattern for a large owl, but that one will have to wait. I will be making a pincushion with all those cute little pink owls. Mmmm, I need to find those eyes!

Tijdens de QB hebben Gerda, Mariëlle en Marie-Jozé laten zien hoe je deze schattige uiltjes maakt. We hebben ook een patroon voor een grote uil gekregen, maar die moet nog even wachten. Van al die roze uiltjes zal ik een pincushion maken. En nu nog de oogjes vinden!

Christmas Swaps and Lots of Snow

This year I joined two Christmas swaps, one organized by Chookyblue, Secret Santa Christmas Swap and one by Katrien, Kerstruil.

Dit jaar heb ik aan twee Kerst swaps meegedaan. Eentje werd georganiseerd door Chookyblue - Secret Santa Christmas Swap en eentje door Katrien - Kerstruil.

These are the lovely presents I received from my SSCS partner, Julie. Look at the lovely Christmas items she made for my kitchen. Aren't they adorable! Paper pieced Santa's for an apron and pot holder. And if you click on the picture, you can see the lovely fabric Julie used for the towel. It really makes me smile.

I know the knitted cloth is for the dishes, but I won't be using it for that. Way to pretty. I will be using it as a small table topper (o:

Dit zijn de mooie cadeautjes die ik van mijn SSCS partner Julie heb gekregen. Kijk eens naar al het moois dat ze voor mijn keuken heeft gemaakt. Paper pieced Santa's op een schort en een pannenlap. En als je op de foto klikt, kun je het grappige stofje zien dat ze voor de theedoek heeft gebruikt (o:

Ik weet dat de gebreide lap voor de afwas is, maar geef toe, dat is toch veel te zonde! Ik leg het mooi ergens neer.

And these are the presents I received for the Kerstruil. For each letter of Kerst (short for Christmas in Dutch - Kerstmis) we were asked to have a present for each letter. Lovely Ingrid was my partner. K - klosjes (bobbins), E - etui (pouch), R - rood (red), S - speldenkussen (pin cushion), T - theelichtjes (tea lights).

The pin cushion I will make myself. All the items are added to make an Amish pin cushion - the materials to make it symbolize the Amish traditions. I have never seen anything like it. Lovely!

En dit zijn de cadeautjes die ik voor de Kerstruil heb gekregen. Voor iedere letter voor Kerst werd gevraagd een cadeautje toe te voegen. K - klosje, E - etui, R - rood, S - speldenkussen, T - theelichtjes.

Het speldenkussentje ga ik nog zelf maken. De materialen ervoor symboliseren de Amish tradities. Heel erg leuk. Bedankt, Ingrid, voor deze mooie KERSTcadeautjes!

Helaas is mijn kerstruil niet aangekomen )o: Ik hoop dat het aan de stakingen ligt en het feit dat in België de post niet iedere dag bezorgd is met al die sneeuw. Hopelijk komt het deze week aan!
